A. OK, that's happening because it's a DOS program, and no matter how much RAM you have, DOS is still only capable of having 640k. You need nearly 600k of that actually available to the game to be able to load 32 robots. DOS itself uses up some of that, and Win98 also installs a few things (such as a portion of your CD driver, and possibly a few other things). You should also keep in mind that if you're running it under some kind of shell, that it simply may not be possible to run it with this many robots. For instance, if you make or obtain some sort of tournament program that attempts to load 32 robots, the tournament program may eat up too much memory for it to be possible to use so many robots at once. But under normal circumstances for typical use, it's quite easy to fix.

To remedy it, use notepad and open up C:\CONFIG.SYS, and make sure it contains the following lines:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DOS=HIGH,AUTO,UMB

The "NOEMS" portion is optional, and in fact you may have other settings on that line (they determine how much EMS memory is available to other DOS programs, but ATR2 doesn't need it so it doesn't matter for this). The important thing is that both himem and emm386 are loaded, and after them you want to have the DOS=high line to make sure as much of DOS itself as possible is loaded outside of the 640k memory space. Make sure these are the first 3 lines of CONFIG.SYS. After that, if you see any DEVICE= lines, change them to be DEVICEHIGH= instead. This will free up as much memory as possible.

You'll need to reboot for the changes to take effect.

A. Make sure the computer is plugged in and turned on first... :)

A. The robot archives online are based on UNIX systems, and thus the text format is slightly different. Your browser -should- automatically take this into account. Or, if you're using an FTP program to grab the robots, you should make sure that you're transfering in ASCII mode rather than BINARY.

In order to load robots that are behaving this way, try loading them into a text editor, such as notepad, and then just hit "Save" without making any changes. This will re-write it to the disk, hopefully with the correct end-of-line markers (which is where the problem lies). They should work after that.
