NecroBones®
Skeleton Characters
WHO ARE THESE GUYS?
I first came up with the name "NecroBones" to use for my software back around the
end of '93, or January '94, coinciding with creating a small DOS shareware game
called "Skull Quest". It was a small silly side-scroller game, starring a
skeleton character. Within the game, the player would interact with many other
undead characters, most of whom were also skeletons.
Skull Quest was partially inspired by the first Prince of Persia game, which
was also a side-view game (though not a scroller), which featured smoothly
animated characters, including a few skeletons that you would sword-fight with
here and there. I originally envisioned Skull Quest having sword-fights as well,
but decided it was too difficult to animate at the time.
Skull Quest was followed by one sequel, which was essentially the same game,
with new characters and a new story. I created a greatly improved interface
and engine to ues for another sequel, but never completed it.
A few years later, after I had created a website and set up the necrobones.com
domain name, I got the idea to re-use the animated characters from these games
as mascot icons on the website, and they've remained ever since.
